SVEN-AKE JOHANSSON WAS ONE OF THE FIRST AVANT-GARDE JAZZ MUSICIANS IN THE WORLD. HE PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN THE ENERGY JAZZ MOVEMENT THAT SWEPT EUROPE IN THE 60'S AND 70'S. S-A J PUT ALL HIS CONCENTRATION AND FOCUS ON THE DRUMS, PRODUCING DYNAMIC SOUND POEMS ON ENERGY AND POLYRHYTHM. BORN IN SWEDEN, J EXPATRIED TO BERLIN IN THE LATE 60'S AND IMMEDIATELY BECAME INVOLVED IN THE BURGEONNING ENERGY FREE JAZZ MOVEMENT SPEARHEAD BY SAXOPHONIST PETER BRÖTZMANN. JOHANSSON WAS THE DRUMMER ON BRÖTZMANN FIRST RECORDING 'CLASSIC' 'FOR ADOLPH SAX' IN 1968. THEN, THE SUBSEQUENT BRÖTZMANN OCTET 'MACHINE GUN'. SVEN-AKE JOHANSSON ALSO PLAYED THE FIRST GLOBE UNITY ORCHESTRA.
